We adopted Ole 9 yrs ago and he is such a good boy! We regularly donate and we will adopt again.
Got our new Kitty boy from them and he's amazing!
Went here for their Puppy-Palooza and got to enjoy some puppy snuggles. The staff was friendly, and the animals seemed very well taken care of. Disappointed my husband didn't let us bring one home, but enjoyed the event the put on in hopes of finding these animals a new home.
Their puppy's were already chipped, fixed, and vaccinated which is awesome.
The Newberg Animal Shelter is a great place to volunteer and to adopt from. I volunteered with them first: one of my previous employers allowed us to volunteer up to 21 hours a year for pay & I enjoyed spending a bulk of those hours at Newberg. They were wonderful hosts & I really felt like I made a difference with cleaning out the dog enclosures. I signed up to foster with them next, and I "foster failed" on my first foster - which is a little mixed breed girl that they called Parker. I re-named her Pepper, and she's been a joy. When I adopted her they gave a lovely adoption care bag - one of the items was a stuffed unicorn that she still cuddles and plays with. She's been a healthy and happy little girl, and she's turning 5 months old in a few days. She's going to have a lovely forever home, and they chose wisely for an adopter. :) Their staff clearly cares about the animals there, and they're a reasonable drive from the Portland Metro. I'm someone that values supporting rural organizations, and this one is definitely worth it. I'd also recommend them as a great place to donate to. They accept your BottleDrop Plus funds if you use BottleDrop and/or if you work at Intel they're listed as an organization to match donations. They're one of only 2 of dozens of places I donate to that I've received a thank you note from.
I want to share my gratitude today. Someone dropped off a pregnant cat at my church in the wildwood. Newberg Animal Shelter took her in and is now is in the comfort of a foster home. So thankful 🙏 …
Nice shelter with open rooms for most cats. Cats with problems stay out in kennels in the lobby so they can be watched.
It was interesting that they don't allow people back in with the dogs since it upsets them so much. So they have a wall that they post the picture and details of the dogs for you to see. Once you find a dog you like they will bring it out for you to meet.
Make sure if you already own a dog that you bring it along to do a "meet and greet" so you know that all parties get along.
They have a small store set-up with items for sale to benefit the shelter.
This was also the first shelter I've visited that has one of the "small libraries" out front to use.
All in all, a nice place, privately owned, no kill shelter. Open 11 to 6 most days. Check their website or Facebook for more information.
Be carfull when donating to newberg animal shelter. They will gladly take you brand new items you intended for them to use at the shelter like new dog bowls, new dog beds, new crates etc and sell them from someone else's private Facebook page for 1/10 of value. This is shamefully and is taking advantage of donations intended to go towards use at the shelter. If they have an over abundance of certain items they should give them to people when they adopt a pet. I did not bring brand new items in for you to turn around and sell them for a massive discount. Atleast get the proper value for something if your going to sell it. People will pay more for something when they know the money is going to a good cause
Adopted a kitten with them, less than 30 days. Do not adopt kittens from this shelter without a full check up of their health as the kitten had FIP from being in the shelter around other cats who have Feline COVID and they refuse to test their kittens for it after speaking with service manager. There is no cure for FIP and is 100% fatal. Thankfully a veterinarian is helping us report the shelter and go after for the damages caused by their lack of regard of animal well being while in their care.
